Hello Members, Contributors, and Friends of the League:

Every year since 1964 The Columbia Basin Development League (CBDL) has initiated it annual Membership campaign in December. This year is no exception! We are excited to share with you that this year in particular, your 2009 membership dues supported CBDL activities that were done on your behalf and interests, and you are beginning to see the physical manifestation of those efforts in both the Weber Coulee Siphon Complex Project and the Potholes Reservoir Project - both of which we are pleased to report, are projects on the move!

As we have always maintained, your continued financial and personal support of our mission is vital to the effectiveness of the League’s ability to represent you and advocate for your interests in the Columbia Basin Project (CBP).

Renewing your membership for the upcoming 2010 year will assure the CBDL continues in its vital role in advocating for the advancement of the Project as well as educating the public on the importance of the project to the economy of the region and the state.

The League has had a very busy year in 2009 - putting plans in place for action once the Odessa Sub Area studies are completed, and for advancing viable ideas for the next phase of the overall Project development.

The Board of Trustees met earlier this year and reviewed where we have been for the past 5 years and what needs to be done over the next few years while the studies are being completed to move into the next phase of the Project forward and to resolve the Odessa Sub-Area Aquifer depletion. Many of the action steps have been completed: We have hired our new Executive Director, encouraged the ongoing development of our long term relationships, and increased our presence with our state and national elected leaders who represent our interests.

Our plan for 2010:

To take our current effort to the next level by expanding and increasing our influence at the regional and federal level by:
  • Continuing to influence public policy with our lobbying and communication efforts.
  • Continuing to increase the visibility of the Project by having a strong participatory presence in targeted organizations, local and statewide associations, and
  • Continuing to expand our capacity through effective grass-roots communication efforts.
The Goals for 2010 are to continue our efforts in:
  • Protecting, and growing, the economic base of the Columbia Basin Project,
  • Providing and promoting private & public partnerships to facilitate the continuation of the Columbia Basin Project,
  • Protecting the existing portion of the Basin Project, and to
  • Resolve depletion of the Odessa Sub-area Aquifer.

How you can help us shape the vision of the future:

The Columbia Basin Project began with vision, courage and the determination to accomplish great things and we’re only half way there. We have an incredible asset in the Project and we need to keep it viable. Issues continue to surface that puts the CBP viability in jeopardy. We need to continue to be pro-active and support the existing project when needed. Your continued financial participation in the League allows us to continue to focus our efforts on bringing this vision to reality. Along with the current interest toward resolving the Odessa Sub-Area Aquifer depletion issue, the League’s long term goal is to see the Project completion become a reality. We vow to keep that vision clear and we can only do that with your help. Won’t you please help us once again by sending in your membership and contribution form today?

As always, we remain sincerely appreciative of you and your support of our efforts at making this project a complete reality!

Sincerely,

Sean S. McGrath
Executive Director
